 About Belly Dance

Experts say that belly dancing is one of the oldest forms of dance, having roots in all ancient cultures.  Throughout history, this ritualised expression has usually been performed by women for women...generally during fertility rites or parties preparing young women for marriage.  The dance focuses upon isolating different parts of the body, moving them independantly in sensuous patterns, weaving together the entire feminine form.  The muscle isolation techniques require practice and control, and the smaller the movement, the more the greater the control and the more the muscle is exercised.  It is a dance form natural to a woman's bone and muscle structure, with many movements almost instinctive.  Belly dance has evolved form many different cultures and techniques.  The wide range of choices is one of its charms.  The most commonly seen are the Egyptian and Turkish styles of belly dance, but even these cultures have borrowed movements from each other and many other countries besides.  Tribal Belly dance is becoming popular and folk dances are making a reappearance.

The use of accessories such as swords, Wings of Isis and candelabras can be seen in many modern dances and the influence of classical ballet, jazz and flamenco is widely seen.

There is a form of belly dance to suit all tastes, ages and finess levels.  So  why not let the passion strike and relase the Goddess within?
